HIGH SCHOOL TEKS
In Physical Education, students acquire the knowledge and skills for movement that provide the foundation for enjoyment, continued social development through physical activity, and access to a physically-active lifestyle. The student exhibits a physically-active lifestyle and understands the relationship between physical activity and health throughout their lifespan.
How Can I Communicate With Students?
As the teacher, explaining the importance of physical education programs as the cornerstone of an active lifestyle for individuals, students will be more interested in the material and participation will subsequently increase. High school students gain competency in selected physical activities, TEKS requires students to gain knowledge about lifetime physical fitness and setting health and wellness goals. Students can enjoy a physically-active lifestyle and understand the relationship between physical activity and health through a lifetime. The TEKS for Physical Education for high school students recommends that students acquire the knowledge and skills to help promote a healthy lifestyle through physical activity. The student comprehends practices that impact daily performance, physical activity, and health. In doing so, they understand the importance of maintaining a healthy body and mind through the practices and knowledge they have acquired through their physical education courses. |
Individual Sports
The student develops the ability to participate confidently in individual sports and understands the basic components such as strategies, protocol, and rules of individual sports.
Classes cover but are not limited to: · Golf · Tennis · Track and Field · Badminton |
Team Sports
The students demonstrate consistency using all the basic offensive and defensive skills of a sport and uses internal and external information to modify movement during performance.
Activities include but not limited to: · Basketball · Soccer · Volleyball · Football |
What Will Students Gain from the Listed Activities?
The listed sporting events all fall under different levels of TEKS and contribute to the student's increased activity level. By student's participating in the above sports, they increase endurance and skills in all areas of physical fitness suggested on the TEKS. Also, by diversifying the activities these teenagers participate in, students are more likely to discover an activity that sparks an interest that may continue throughout their life which will assist in a healthier style of living.
Aerobic ActivitiesThe student develops the ability to perform a level of competency in aerobic activities and applies movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.
